‘Zathura: A Space Adventure’ actor Dax Shepard recently opened up about the bond he shared with the late ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor, Eric Dane. The two were close friends; however, the start of their friendship was rough to say the least. Shepard recently shared that when they first met, he used to hate Dane, among other things.Read ahead to know more about what he had to share.
Dax Shepard talks about his friendship with Eric Dane
During one of his chats with CNN, the famed star touched upon the topic of his friendship with Eric Dane, who passed away earlier this month due to ALS. He revealed that the two of them were not the closest friends at first, and even hated each other. However, at their AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings, the two of them started to bond and became close. Further talking about his friend and fellow actor, Shepard shared, “Eric Dane, I can now say I met in recovery and we hated each other. I hated him! I thought he was a bit of a bully. And we were in a meeting [and] he threatened a younger member of the group, and this had been simmering for a long time, and I said, ‘Let’s go. Outside. Right now.’ It was on. And we walked outside to a fist fight in the driveway of an AA meeting.”He further recalled that at the time, people in the area had to break them apart before something serious happened. However, neither of them stopped going to the meetings, and over the course of the next 2 years, they both started becoming friends and relating to one another. “I found myself starting to kind of relate to him. I heard his story,” he quipped.
Dax Shepard talks about how he and Eric Dane understood one another
During the AA meetings, the ‘Employee of the Month’ actor revealed that they were both honest about their traumatic upbringing. He revealed what happened to Dane’s father and how both of them grew up without a father figure in their life. “That little boy grew up without a dad, like I grew up without a dad, and he was so in search of masculine validation, and it took all these shapes that I hated. That I’m sure he hated in me,” he added. Shepard had once told the ‘Euphoria’ actor how one of his shares in the meeting was his favourite, and this was followed by a similar comment a few weeks later. He provided context, adding, “Maybe a week or two later, one of his shares, he said, ‘I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I think I’ve come to fall in love with Dax.’ And then we became friends.”Eric Dane earlier revealed that he had been diagnosed with ALS in April last year. He had shared that more than a year ago, he had started showing symptoms, after which he got the diagnosis just recently. Dane passed away in February this year. He was 53 at the time of his passing.
