The Department of Health Research (DHR), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has opened applications for its Fellowship Abroad programme for the 2026-27 academic year.The fellowship scheme, offered under the Human Resource Development (HRD) programme, aims to help Indian researchers gain advanced training and exposure to the latest developments in health, biomedical and clinical sciences through collaboration with leading international institutions and scientists.According to DHR, the programme is meant for Indian researchers, faculty members, scientists and healthcare professionals seeking specialised training and research experience in emerging areas of health and biomedical sciences.The fellowship programme has two categories. Under the Short-Term Fellowship Abroad, selected candidates can undergo training for a period ranging from 15 days to three months. Applicants must be below 57 years of age as on the last date for submitting applications.The Long-Term Fellowship Abroad offers training opportunities lasting between six and 12 months. Candidates applying under this category must be below 45 years of age on the application deadline.

DHR overseas fellowship: How to apply

Applications must be submitted online through the ICMR fellowship portal.Interested candidates can check detailed eligibility criteria, application formats, terms and conditions, and other guidelines on the DHR website.The last date to submit applications is June 30, 2026, at 5 pm IST. Applicants are advised to verify details on the official website before applying.DHR has also clarified that the selection process is competitive. Applying to a specific international institute does not guarantee selection for the fellowship. The department further noted that grants under the HRD scheme are subject to periodic progress reviews and the availability of funds.
